IT’S A LONG WAY TO THE TO

Wide Angle Tasmania were having a seminar where three successful producers visited to give their stories and answer questions.

Date/time: Friday July 13th 5.30pm

Venue: The Venue, off Wooby’s Lane, 2nd floor, Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart

Join Producers Lynda House (Kokoda, Ned Kelly, Proof, Muriel’s Wedding), Alicia Rackett (Blue Rocket Productions) and Martin Brown (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) for an informal chat about life in the film industry, and how short term setbacks can provide an opportunity for learning. The aim of this seminar is to open up dialogue that allows emerging practitioners to gain insight into the resilience required to stay in the film making game.

Me and Lord Boofhead attended and were educated. Then we attended the function afterwards and were well refreshed.

Lighter Test Image

Due to discrepencies in gamma from monitor to monitor I've created a lighter version of the test image. When I get access to Macintosh computers I'll be able to compare it with the dark images to ascertain the optimum level of darkness.

Latest test images

Unfortunately I lost the tree files as they were on the hard drive that died, so I've grabbed a highly compressed branch I uploaded to this blog. It doesn't really look very good.

Location Scouting

I went location scouting several days ago and took pictures of sites which may act as suitable locations. They have not been enhanced and may appear too dark depending on the gamma of the monitor you're using.

The prerequisites were simple:
  1. The location had to enable shots from the front and side that were free from traces of suburbia.
  2. They had to be easily accessible and close to the city. The old Rosny Golf Course locations are a mere 5 minute walk from Eastlands and the Rosny Bus Mall. Very convenient.

Location 2 - Old Rosny Golf Course

Side

During my travels I discovered that the Rosny Golf Course used to be much larger before the double laned highway was built. This means on the other side of the highway is a vast expanse of vacant public land which once accomodated the golf course.

Location 3 - Kangaroo Bluff Battery

Front

Side

This location is housed within the Kangaroo Bluff Battery which is about 20-25 minutes walk from Eastlands but there's a bus that stops about 2 minutes away. Since it is a historic site limitations may be posed to the range of the shots which can be achieved because I don't want to include any of the historic architecture since its not relevant to the story.

I have taken many pictures of the battery and I shall display them in a future blog entry.
